BE prepared to buy 4
I bought one of these about 2 years ago....as a project manager I ended up working with a technician that didn't have the expertise I expected and I ended up training him, to some extent.
After our project was done I gave him my Southwire phone line tester.
To my surprise I had to buy 4 different ones to get one that worked 100%.
It works, but there's no reason why 75% should be defective.

Can the P700 be used to test line conditions on a VOIP RJ11 jack or is it for POTS only?

When testing for ringer voltage, it causes my phones not to ring at all.
I cannot find any mention of REN or load impedance anywhere.
It acts like it is loading the line enough to prevent proper ringing.

Our telephone provider, Comcast, has remotely diagnosed a problem in one of our two landlines."short" in one of the wall jacks. we have 6 or so telephone jacks on that line. Lowe's told us your P700 could diagnose where the short is. True or false?

The P700 will indicate if there is proper wiring in a phone line. This tester won’t necessarily state if there is a short or not, though. If there is a short in 1 out of 6 wall jacks, then this tester will at least note that 5 of the wall jacks are wired correctly.

If the Green LED is illuminating, that signals that the line is properly wired.
